The Lonely Island's forthcoming feature-length spoof music documentary will be titled Conner4real.
That's according to Deadline reports that confirmed the film will co-star fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus Tim Meadows as the frazzled manager of the rapper character being played by Andy Samberg.
Though Conner4real is supposed to be "top secret", it was reported earlier this month (May 15) that the movie is being conceived as a send-up of "fluffy music documentaries" like Justin Bieber's Never Say Never and Katy Perry's Part Of Me. Samberg is said to be starring as a rapper who is forced to reunite with his former boyband when his latest album tanks.
The comedy music trio – Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – recently started shooting the film in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Sarah Silverman, who will appear as the rapper's long-suffering but quick-witted publicist, and Imogen Poots, who will play his love interest. Schaffer and Taccone are directing the film with all three memebrs serving as producers alongside Judd Apatow.
The Lonely Island first found success in the mid-00s when they were hired as Saturday Night Live writers and their videos for spoof songs like 'Dick In A Box', 'Jizz In My Pants' and 'I Just Had Sex' went viral online. They have now released three albums and collaborated with artists including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg.
The Lonely Island reportedly confirm title of forthcoming spoof music documentary
'Ex Machina' actress Alicia Vikander in talks to star opposite Matt Damon in 'Bourne 5'
Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander is being lined up to play the female lead in the fifth Bourne film.
The film, currently untitled, will mark the return of Matt Damon's Jason Bourne after nearly a decade away from the screen. The actor sat out 2012's Bourne Legacy, which instead starred Jeremy Renner and performed relatively disappointingly at the box office.
Director Paul Greengrass, who was behind the camera for the second and third Bourne films, is also returning for the fifth instalment. For the first time, Greengrass and Damon will be writing the screenplay themselves, alongside Christopher Rouse, who served as editor on the second and third Bourne films. Vikander is understood to be "in talks" to co-star opposite Damon, Deadline reports, depending on her busy schedule.
NME Interviews 'Ex Machina''s Break-out Star Alicia Vikander
The Swedish actress is increasingly in demand following her well-received performance in Alex Garland's acclaimed sci-fi film Ex Machina, released earlier this year, and will soon be seen in Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which opens in cinemas on August 14 and co-stars Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.
The fifth Bourne film is set for release on July 29, 2016. The producer of the Bourne franchise, Frank Marshall, insisted earlier this year (2015) that there are no plans for Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner to appear together in the same film.
George Clooney apologises for 'Batman & Robin': 'I thought I'd destroyed the franchise'
George Clooney has apologised once again for Batman & Robin, admitting he thought he had "destroyed" the Batman franchise with the poorly-received 1997 film.
Clooney starred as the caped crusader in the much-maligned movie from director Joel Schumacher, which co-starred Chris O'Donnell as Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Though Batman And Robin grossed a respectable $238 million (£154 million) at cinemas globally, this total was considerably less than distributors Warner Bros. had anticipated and the reaction to the film from critics and Batman fans alike was overwhelmingly negative.
Clooney brought up Batman & Robin during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (May 22), branding the film a "disaster" before admitting: "I always apologise for Batman & Robin. Let me just say that I'd actually thought I'd actually destroyed the franchise until somebody else brought it back years later and changed it."
"I thought at the time [Batman & Robin] was going to be a very good career move," Clooney continued. "It wasn't."
Director Christopher Nolan would go on to reboot the Batman franchise eight years after Batman & Robin with 2005's critically acclaimed Batman Begins starring Christian Bale. A pair of well-received sequels, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, followed in 2008 and 2012, each grossing over $1 billion at cinemas globally.
'Now You See Me 3' is already in the works
Now You See Me 3 is now in the works - even though Now You See Me 2 is still a year away from release.
The original Now You See Me film, which followed a posse of bank-robbing magicians, became one of summer 2013's summer's surprise box office hits, grossing over $350 million (£227 million) at cinemas worldwide from an estimated $75 million (£48 million) budget. A sequel, titled Now You See Me: The Second Act, has recently finished filming and is set to open in cinemas on June 10, 2016.
Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine have all reprised their roles for the sequel, joined by Daniel Radcliffe and Lizzy Caplan. The sequel is being directed by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who takes over the director's chair from the original film's Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Clash Of The Titans).
Now makers Lionsgate have confirmed that they are already working on a third film in the series. "We've already begun early planning for Now You See Me 3," the company's CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed in a conference call with business analysts on Friday (May 22), Variety reports. The CEO also told analysts that he expects Now You See Me: The Second Act to rake in more than the original film's $350 million at the global box office.
'Pitch Perfect 2' beats 'Mad Max: Fury Road' to top of US box office
Pitch Perfect 2 has comfortably beaten Mad Max: Fury Road to the top of the US box office.
After being released on Friday (May 15), the musical comedy sequel starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson raked in an impressive $70.3m (£44.7m) over its opening weekend. Its three-day total exceeds the $65 million (£41 million) that the original Pitch Perfect film earned in the US during its entire 2012 cinema run. Nick Carpou of distributors Universal called Pitch Perfect 2's opening weekend "pretty amazing", adding that: "People loved the first movie and it resonated well beyond that $65 million that the first film did".
Mad Max: Fury Road, which revives director George Miller's dystopian action franchise after a three-decade hiatus, opened in second place with takings of $44.4m (£28.3 million). The R-rated blockbuster starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron has a hefty $190 million (£120 million) budget to recoup, but Dan Fellman of distributors Warner Bros. said that he remains confident the film will prove an ongoing box office draw in the US, the world's most lucrative movie market.
"It's a film where there's a lot of applause at the end of the movie," Fellman explained. "A lot of people coming to the movie went purely on the reviews. The conversation about it is so strong about what an incredible ride this is that it's going to propel us right into the meat of the summer."
Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron finished in third place in the US this weekend, adding another $38.8 million (£24.8 million) to its total US box office takings. Joss Whedon's sci-fi blockbuster has now raked in over $1.14 billion (£730 million) at cinemas worldwide, placing it eighth on the all-time list. Whedon's original 2012 Avengers film sits at third on the all-time list with takings of $1.52 billion (£970 million).
'Hugo' star Asa Butterfield 'in early talks' to star in new 'Spider-Man' film
Asa Butterfield, the 18-year-old English actor known for his roles in Hugo and Ender's Game, is reportedly in talks to star in the next Spider-Man film.
Following a landmark deal made between Sony Pictures and Marvel in February, Spider-Man's next big screen appearance will be in an upcoming Marvel film. Which one has yet to be announced, but it is widely expected that the new Spider-Man will make his screen debut in May 2017's Captain America: Civil War.
The webslinger will then star in the next instalment in Sony's Spider-Man series, which is set for release on July 28, 2017. For the first time, Marvel's president Kevin Feige will serve as a producer on one of Sony's Spider-Man films, working alongside Sony's Amy Pascal, a veteran of the studio's Spider-Man movies.
Feige revealed last month (April) that the new Spider-Man will be a "15 or 16 year old" Peter Parker. Now Deadline is reporting that Butterfield is frontrunner among five actors being considered for the role, though apparently "nothing is set in stone".
Talking last month, Feige explained why Marvel and Sony are keen to introduce a version of the webslinger younger than those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. "We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there've been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there've been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven't been done yet," he said.
"Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the 'young, doesn't quite fit in' kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn't shut up, which is something we want to play with and we're excited about."
'The Mindy Project' revived by Hulu for 26-episode fourth season
After being cancelled by Fox earlier this month (May), The Mindy Project has been revived by online streaming service Hulu.
Hulu, which already owns the streaming rights to the show's existing episodes of, has ordered a 26-episode fourth season of the cult sitcom starring former The Office actress.
"Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship," Hulu's Craig Erwich said in a press statement. "I am thrilled The Mindy Project has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show," Kaling added.
The Mindy Project launched on Fox in 2012 and recently completed its third season on the network but was not renewed for a fourth. Though the show, which co-stars Chris Messina and British actor Ed Weeks, is popular with TV critics and has built a loyal following, it has consistently struggled in the ratings.
The Mindy Project centres on Kaling's character, obstetrician/gynaecologist Mindy Lahiri, as she tries to balance her professional life co-managing a small medical practice in New York City with an often chaotic personal life. The show has attracted a host of notable guest stars over its three-season run including James Franco, Seth Rogen, Tyler The Creator, Moby and Laura Dern.

Title for Third Planet of the Apes Film Revealed?
Even before Dawn of the Planet of the Apes debuted in theaters last summer and became a box office smash, 20th Century Fox was already making plans for a follow-up film. Collider now brings word that the previously unnamed feature will go by the title: War of the Planet of the Apes. This remains unconfirmed by Fox, but stay tuned for updates as we learn them.
“It could be five years after the event, it could be the night after the events of where we left ‘Dawn,’ so it’s very difficult to know where the story is going right at this moment because it’s being written as we speak,” series star Andy Serkis said of the film last year. “I know that part of the desire for Matt [Reeves] to do this next movie is about continuing the enjoyment of seeing these apes evolve. So I don’t think we’re going to see a situation where we’re jumping….It might be three films, It could be four. It could be five. Who knows? But the journey will continue. It might not necessarily be summarized or completely fulfilled in this next one. The point being, eventually we know that we’re going to end up back at ‘The Planet of the Apes,’ but whether it’s this film or not, I don’t know.”
Director Matt Reeves also chimed in about the movie previously, saying: “The notion of what we’re after with the third is to sort of continue that trajectory and see how he becomes a seminal figure in ape history. He almost becomes sort of like an ape Moses. A mythic status… We’re trying to play out those themes and continue to sort of explore it in this universe. Exploring human nature under the guise of apes.”
Reeves, who directed last year’s “Dawn,” will return for the sequel, the script for which he is co-writing with Mark Bomback. War of the Planet of the Apes is set for release on July 14, 2017.

Now, the game’s design director, Niklas Fegraeus, has posted an open letter on their official site and confirmed some of the new game modes that players will find.
“We have created new game modes and made new maps to cater to their specific experience. You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic. Then, for those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills. All our Missions can be played either alone or cooperatively, making them perfect for some quick Star Wars action when you have a friend over.”
Fegraeus also confirmed that an official look at gameplay in the title will be revealed at next month’s E3 conference.
Star Wars Battlefront will allow fans to live out a wide range of heroic moments and intense battle fantasies of their own – firing blasters, riding speeder bikes and snow speeders, commanding AT-ATs and piloting TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon. Sturges’ version starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn as a group of disparate gunmen who come together to protect a Mexican village from bandits led by Eli Wallach. It led to a number of sequels as well as a CBS television series.
The new film is said to feature a victimized mining town, taken over by a gold baron, rather than the Mexican village of the original. 'The X-Files' to return for six-episode event series in January 2016
Fox has announced that The X-Files' eagerly-anticipated revival series will begin in January 2016.
The US network will air Episode One of the "event series" on Sunday, January 25, followed by Episode Two on Monday, January 26. The remaining episodes of the event series will air on Fox on subsequent Monday nights. At present, the "event series" has yet to be picked up by a UK broadcaster.
Fox confirmed in March that it is bringing back The X-Files for a six-episode "event series". David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their iconic roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, with Chris Carter returning as executive producer. Mitch Pileggi confirmed last month (April) that he will be returning as FBI boss Walter Skinner.
Chris Carter spoke about the event series shortly after it was announced, promising fans that it will be "honest" to the show's characters. Carter also revealed at the time that the event series has "no scripts yet" but insisted: "I know what I want to do, how I want it to lay out - the balance of mythology to stand-alone episodes."
"The people that are going to be involved have been talking since the beginning of the year, so we have a clear idea of how this should be, or the best way we think this should be laid out," Carter added.
The cult sci-fi show originally aired on Fox for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002 and also spawned a pair of spin-off films, released in 1998 and 2008. Fox first revealed in January that it was having "conversations" about reviving the much-loved series.

The film's cast includes Emily Browning as Francis Shea, Reggie's wife, and Christopher Eccleston as Leonard "Nipper" Read, the Detective Chief Superintendent tasked with taking down the Kray twins in the 1960s. Colin Morgan, Paul Bettany, David Thewlis and Kingsman's Taron Egerton also appear in supporting roles.
Shooting took place at various locations in London in June 2014. Legend is set for release in UK cinemas on September 11.
The notorious Kray twins were previously the subject of another big screen biopic, 1990's The Krays starring Spandau Ballet's Martin and Gary Kemp.
Netflix orders 'Green Eggs And Ham' animated series from Ellen DeGeneres
Netflix has ordered a 13-episode Green Eggs And Ham animated series.
Ellen DeGeneres is serving as an executive producer on the "richly-animated" adaptation of Dr. Seuss's classic children's book, which will launch on the streaming service in 2018.
"The show is gonna combine two of my favourite things - Dr. Seuss and binge-watching," DeGeneres said while announcing the series on her US chat show. "It's going to be cutting edge animation, it's never been done on television before, it's very cool."
Deadline reports that the adaptation is being written by Jared Stern, who is also working on The Lego Movie Sequel, and is "expected to be the highest-end, most expensive animated programme ever produced for television".
DeGeneres, known for her voice role in Finding Nemo as well as her long-running US chat show, did not reveal whether she will take on a voice role in Green Eggs And Ham too. Watch the entertainer announcing the Dr. Seuss adaptation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show below.
New Bond supercars revealed in 'Spectre' behind-the-scenes video - watch
The supercars of new Bond film Spectre are unveiled in a new behind-the-scenes video from the film's set.
In the video, director Sam Mendes reveals that the 24th Bond film will feature a "cat and mouse game through the night-time streets of Rome at great speed between two of the fastest cars in the world", one an Aston Martin, the other a Jaguar.
The scene will see Daniel Craig's 007 in his Aston Martin being chased by Dave Bautista's character Mr. Hinx in the Jaguar. "It's one of those scenes that's going to very iconic I think," Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Bautista says in the video. Watch below.
Sam Mendes started shooting Spectre in December shortly after the title and main cast of the 24th Bond film were announced. Joining Daniel Craig's 007 and Bautista's Mr. Hinx are double Oscar winner Christoph Waltz in an unspecified role, former Sherlock star Andrew Scott as a member of MI6 called Denbigh, Blue Is The Warmest Colour's Lea Seydoux as a Bond girl named Madeleine Swann, Italian actress Monica Bellucci as another female lead, Lucia Sciarra, and Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman as a character named Estrella.
Also returning alongside Daniel Craig are his Skyfall castmates Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (Q), Rory Kinnear (Bill Tanner) and Ralph Fiennes (M). The film's official plot synopsis teases: "In Spectre, a cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE."
In February Craig injured his knee while shooting a fight scene for the film but he has since made a full recovery. Meanwhile, it was reported last month (March) that the Welsh Assembly recently turned down a request by the film's producers to shoot scenes in the Senedd debating chamber in Cardiff Bay.
'Fast & Furious 7' overtakes 'Harry Potter' to become fourth highest-grossing film of all time
Fast & Furious 7 has overtaken Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2 to become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time.
The car chase sequel - simply titled Furious 7 in the US - opened in cinemas on April 3 and became the fastest film ever to gross $1 billion (£660 million) at the global box office, reaching the milestone in just 17 days. The film, which features the final screen appearance from the late Paul Walker, has now taken over $1.35 billion (£880 million) worldwide, zooming ahead of the final Harry Potter film, which grossed $1.34 billion (£875 million) globally.
The only films to have raked in more at the global box office are Avatar, which grossed $2.79 billion (£1.82 billion) globally; Titanic, which made $2.19 billion (£1.43 billion); and The Avengers, which earned $1.51 billion (£1 billion).
Franchise star Diesel had spoken boldly about Fast & Furious 7's potential success before the film had even been released, saying in March: "Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie. It will probably win Best Picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."
Diesel confirmed last month (April) that Fast & Furious 8 will be released on April 14, 2017, vowing: "We're going to make the best movie you've ever seen."

Avengers: Age of Ultron Scores $27.6 Million from Thursday Previews
UPDATE: Walt Disney Pictures has revealed that early reads have the movie tracking for a domestic opening weekend up over $200 million with the record in sight. The original story follows:
There’s little question that Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures’ Avengers: Age of Ultron is looking to set a new opening weekend record now that it’s opened in North America, and it’s off to a great start with $27.6 million from Thursday night previews alone. That’s compared to the $18.7 million midnights for Marvel’s The Avengers on the same weekend in 2012.
The movie grossed $3 million of that amount on IMAX screens setting a new record for IMAX Thursday previews (over The Dark Knight Rises‘ $2.3 million IMAX previews).
By comparison, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 grossed $43.5 million in Thursday previews in July 2011 on its way to the highest-grossing single day ever with $91 million and a first weekend take of $169.2 million. It’s also below the $30 million Thursdays for The Dark Knight Rises and three of The Twilight Saga films, but as we’ve seen with previous Marvel movies like Iron Man 3, which grossed $15.6 million in Thursday previews on its way to $174 million opening weekend, there’s usually enough business for these movies to do just as well over the weekend.
If Avengers: Age of Ultron uses the same multiplier as Iron Man 3, it would open with $300 million, but since more people are going to movies on Thursday night more than ever, it’s probably likely to open somewhere higher than the $207 million opening weekend for Marvel’s The Avengers but still less than $230 million.
Going back to The Dark Knight Rises, that grossed $30.6 million on Thursday compared to the $18.5 million midnight gross of The Dark Knight, and Avengers: Age of Ultron has a smaller increase over The Avengers. Since The Dark Knight Rises only opened with $2 million more than The Dark Knight, we can probably expect that the opening of Age of Ultron won’t be much higher than the original movie.
Internationally, the movie has already grossed $287 million after nearly ten days playing in other countries for a global total of $314.9 million. The production budget is reportedly $250 million, so it should be close to recouping that amount by weekend’s end.
Joss Whedon Confirms Loki Scene Was Cut from Avengers: Age of Ultron
Remember back in November when, much to Joss Whedon’s chagrin, Heimdall actor Idris Elba let it slip that he had shot a scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston? If you see the movie this weekend, you might notice that Hiddleston’s Loki is conspicuously absent from said scene, and MTV talked to the writer/director about what happened to this lost cameo.
“Tom is not in the movie… Idris misspoke… twice,” Whedon laughs. “We did shoot something and it didn’t play. The movie has so much, is so filled and we didn’t want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it but I understood the decision, ‘Now there are too many voices in the chorus.’ At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.”
Hopefully this moment with everyone’s favorite trickster god will make its way to the deleted scenes of the Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray, or perhaps even be reconstituted into the body of Thor: Ragnarok, the same way the excised scene of Bruce Banner attempting suicide in The Incredible Hulk was integrated into the dialogue of the first Avengers.
In related news, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige clarified which Infinity Stones we have yet to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Time and Soul are the two that are not accounted for,” he tells CraveOnline. Where do you think these two will pop up in the MCU before Avengers: Infinity War? Let us know in the comments below!
Avengers: Age of Ultron is the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Bettany becomes Vision.
Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Patricia Whitcher, Stan Lee and Jon Favreau serve as executive producers. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is now playing in theaters everywhere.

Mad Max: Fury Road offers post-apocalyptic action set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.
Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There’s Max (Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.
Also starring Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max, Sleeping Beauty), Nathan Jones (Conan the Barbarian, Troy), Zoe Kravitz (Divergent, X-Men: First Class), Riley Keough (The Runaways, Magic Mike) and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Mad Max: Fury Road opens in 2D and 3D theaters on May 15, 2015.

Steven Spielberg and Chris Pratt Talk Jurassic World in a New Featurette
Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for the upcoming Jurassic World in which Steven Spielberg, Chris Pratt and more talk about what the new film means to them. Check it out below!
Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters, Jurassic World arrives from Safety Not Guaranteed helmer Colin Trevorrow and offers a terrifying sci-fi adventure set 22 years after the events of Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 Michael Crichton adaption, Jurassic Park. According to Trevorrow, a huge part of what sparked his take on the blockbuster franchise was the image of a teenager texting, unimpressed with the T. Rex behind the glass in front of him.
Jurassic World, which hits theaters on June 12, 2015, stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Spider-Man 3), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops, “New Girl”), Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man), Vincent D’Onofrio (“Daredevil,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”), BD Wong (Jurassic Park, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Intouchables), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Tomorrowland), Katie McGrath (NBC’s “Dracula,” “Merlin”), Lauren Lapkus (Blended, The To Do List) and Andy Buckley (Bridesmaids, The Other Guys).

Avengers: Age of Ultron Has the Second-Biggest Single Day Ever
Just to make the first weekend of the summer even more exciting, everyone is waiting with bated breath to see if Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron will set a brand-new opening record, surpassing the one set by Marvel’s The Avengers in May 2012. Whether or not that will happen is still up in the air.
After grossing $27.6 million in Thursday previews, the Marvel Studios sequel has reported an estimated $84.5 million for its opening day (including those previews), the second-biggest single day at the domestic box office ever after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which opened with $91 million in the summer of 2011.
The original The Avengers took in $80.8 million its opening Friday on its way to $207 million opening weekend, a multiplier of 2.56, although one has to expect the sequel will be more frontloaded with more screenings and money grossed on Thursday. In fact, the Thursday previews make up a much larger percentage of the opening day for the sequel, about 33% compared to the 22% of the first movie’s opening day that was grossed on Thursday.
There’s also the issue of a number of events this weekend, including the Kentucky Derby later today and the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight tonight, which is already predicted to one of the most viewed box matches in decades which could cut off Age of Ultron‘s important Saturday night viewership.
Conservatively, the sequel could end up just below the opening for The Avengers but with a similar multiplier it would end up just above with between $212 and 215 million. Saturday will be a big day for the movie with families with kids going to see the film and we’ll have to see how far Age of Ultron ends up ahead of The Avengers’ first Saturday of $69.6 million.
Internationally, the movie added another $53 million yesterday, down just 17% from its opening Friday for an overseas total of $340 million and $425 million globally. We’ll known in another week or so whether Age of Ultron is able to beat Furious 7‘s record-setting run to a billion worldwide. It should more than halfway there by Sunday.
Check back tomorrow for ComingSoon.net’s full weekend box office report.
FX Networks Teams with John Singleton on Drama Pilot Snowfall
FX Networks has ordered the drama pilot “Snowfall” from award-winning filmmaker John Singleton, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. Singleton will direct the pilot based on a script he co-wrote with Eric Amadio. Production will begin this summer. Dave Andron (“Justified”) will serve as an Executive Producer.
Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. “Snowfall” is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.
“’Snowfall’ takes us on a wild ride through one of LA’s most fascinating cultural and social periods, and no one can tell this story better than John Singleton,” said Schrier. “The pilot script by John and Eric brilliantly depicts the era through the story of three captivating characters, and we can’t wait to see John’s execution of it.”
“I have always been fascinated with that volatile moment in time before crack changed everything,” said Singleton. “It’s a tense, insane and sexy era that touched every aspect of our culture. I couldn’t have better partners for this journey.”
Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, Four Brothers, 2 Fast 2 Furious), who received two Academy Award nominations for Boyz n the Hood, will Executive Produce, along with Andron, Academy Award nominee Michael London of Groundswell Productions (Sideways, House of Sand and Fog, Thirteen), Amadio (Stuntmen, After Sex), and Trevor Engelson (Remember Me, All About Steve) of Underground. The pilot is being produced by FX Productions.
