Reynolds first played Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool, a Marvel Comics anti-hero famed for his over-chatty personality and tendency to break the fourth wall, in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character's long-awaited solo movie has been in the works since 2010.
Visual effects specialist Tim Miller, whose CV includes creating the opening sequence for 2013's Thor: The Dark World, is making his directorial debut from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creators of US hoax-based comedy series The Joe Schmo Show.
Miller started shooting in late March in Vancouver, Canada with Reynolds leading a cast that includes Haywire's Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin and Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller. Reynolds revealed on April 25 that the the film was "officially halfway through production" and Deadpool is set for release on February 16, 2016.
