A third Pitch Perfect film is said to be moving forward at Universal Pictures.
The original Pitch Perfect film became a surprise hit in 2012, grossing over $115 million (£74 million) at cinemas worldwide and building an even bigger fan base on DVD and VOD. A song from the film, 'Cups' performed by Anna Kendrick, became a Top 10 single in the US.
Since its release in May, Pitch Perfect 2 has been even more successful, raking in over $250 million (£161 million) at cinemas globally. Its soundtrack entered the US albums chart at Number One.
Universal is now "in negotiations" with Kay Cannon, writer of the first two films, about penning Pitch Perfect 3, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. However, it is unknown whether Elizabeth Banks, who directed Pitch Perfect 2 and served as a producer on both films, will be return to the director's chair.
Rebel Wilson, who plays scene-stealing Fat Amy in the films, confirmed in April that she had signed up for a third film. However, Wilson said at the time that she did not know whether Kendrick was planning to return alongside her. The Pitch Perfect films' other stars include Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine and Hailee Steinfeld, who joined the cast for the sequel.
