Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara lip-sync to Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift - watch

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara have shown off their lip-syncing skills on Instagram.

Perhaps inspired by the success of TV's Lip Sync Battle, which has recently been renewed for a second season, the actresses uploaded clips of themselves miming to Miley Cyrus's 'Party In The USA' and Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' on their respective Instagram accounts over the weekend.

The actresses star together in upcoming comedy film Hot Pursuit, in Witherspoon plays an inept police officer tasked with protecting Vergara's widow of a drug dealer. The film, which also stars John Carroll Lynch and former EastEnders actor Robert Kazinsky, opens in US cinemas on May 6 before getting a UK release on July 31.

Vanilla Ice defends Adam Sandler's Netflix comedy film over Native American jokes controversy

Vanilla Ice has spoken out in defence of Adam Sandler's upcoming Netflix comedy film The Ridiculous Six after its depiction of Native American characters became embroiled in controversy.

Last Monday (April 23) around a dozen Native American actors walked off the set of the film, Sandler's first in a four-picture deal with Netflix, after objecting to a script that one departing cast member called "totally disrespectful to elders and Native women". Two of the female Native American characters in the film are understood to be called 'Beaver's Breath' and 'No Bra'.

Netflix quickly released a statement defending the project, saying: "The movie has 'ridiculous' in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularised, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of - but in on - the joke."

Now Vanilla Ice, who play Mark Twain in the film, has voiced his support too, telling TMZ: "It's a comedy. I don't think anybody really had any ill feeling or any intent or anything. This movie isn't Dances With Wolves."

The rapper-actor, who describes his heritage as "part Choctaw" Native American, added: "It's a comedy. They're not there to showcase anything about anybody – they're just making a funny movie, I think. I don't have anything to do with it. I just play my part."

Alongside Sandler and Vanilla Ice, the film's ensemble cast includes Nick Nolte, Luke Wilson, Taylor Lautner, Steve Buscemi, Whitney Cummings and Dan Aykroyd. The Ridiculous Six is set to premiere on Netflix in 2016.

'Homeland' Season Five will be set in Berlin

Season Five of Homeland will be set in Berlin, the show's network Showtime has announced.

Season Five will begin two years after events at the end of Season Four, the network also revealed in a short plot synopsis.

The full synopsis reads: "Season Five will pick-up two years after Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,' Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm."

Show runner Alex Gansa had previously revealed that Season Five would begin after a time jump and teased that Danes' Carrie Mathison would "no longer be an intelligence officer", but the synopsis offers clearer details of what the season will hold in store for Danes' troubled CIA agent.

Season Five of Homeland will begin filming on location in Berlin this summer and is set to premiere on US network Showtime in the autumn. In the UK, the show airs on Channel 4. Danes, who has won two Emmys and two Golden Globes for her performance as Carrie Mathison, will once again be joined by Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson and Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn.

Common joins Jared Leto, Will Smith in Warner Bros.' 'Suicide Squad' movie

Common has landed a role in Suicide Squad, Warner Bros' eagerly-anticipated film following a team of infamous DC Comics super-villains.

The rapper-actor joins a stellar ensemble cast that includes Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Joel Kinnaman bagged the role of Rick Flag after a scheduling clash forced Tom Hardy to pull out of the film. Director David Ayer (Fury) recently shared the first picture of the cast.

Meanwhile, How To Get Away With Murder Star star Viola Davis will appear in a supporting role as Amanda Waller, a government agent who is often put in charge of the 'suicide squad', a team of super-villains working for the government in return for their freedom.

Director Ayer started shooting Suicide Squad in Toronto earlier this month (April), THR reports, and Warner Bros. has set a release date of August 5, 2016. Common's role is currently unknown. Marvel releases first 'Ant-Man' teaser clip - watch

Marvel has shared the first teaser clip from this summer's Ant-Man - and it shows Paul Rudd's title character finding his superhero costume.

Rudd stars as Scott Lang, a petty criminal who acquires the ability to shrink in size but increase in strength and become a superhero known as Ant-Man. Michael Douglas co-stars as Hank Pym, the scientist who originally invented the Ant-Man technology and mentors Lang to take over from him.

Marvel's plot synopsis for the film teases: "The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios' Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."

Filming finished in December 2014 with Peyton Reed (The Break-Up) directing after Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) dropped out in May 2014 citing creative differences with Marvel. Following a legal dispute that has recently been resolved through an arbitration process, the film's screenplay will be credited to Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, the original writers, as well as to Adam McKay and Paul Rudd, who took over scripting duties after Wright's exit.

NME recently included Ant-Man in our gallery of 10 Blockbuster Films You Won't Want To Miss This Summer - check out the full list here.

Animated 'Spider-Man' film being developed by 'The Lego Movie' directors

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the writer-directors behind The Lego Movie, are making an animated Spider-Man film.

Lord and Miller have been hired to write and produce the animated Spider-Man movie, which Sony Pictures boss Tom Rothman announced at the Cinemacon event in Las Vegas yesterday (April 22). However, the duo are not currently signed up to direct the film as well.

Sony has set the animated Spider-Man film for release on July 20, 2018 - around a year after its new live-action Spider-Man movie, made in conjunction with Marvel, which will open in cinemas on July 28, 2017.

Following a landmark deal made between Sony Pictures and Marvel in February, Spider-Man's next big screen appearance will be in an upcoming Marvel film. Which one has yet to be announced, but it is widely expected that the new Spider-Man will make his screen debut in May 2017's Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel's president Kevin Feige recently revealed that the new Spider-Man will be "a 15 or 16-year-old Peter Parker" - noticeably younger than versions of the character played on the big screen by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Up-and-coming actors including Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars), Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Timothee Chalamet (Homeland) are rumoured to be in the running for the role.

BBC Three's move online delayed until 2016

The BBC has postponed its plan to move BBC Three online until 2016.

The BBC announced in March 2014 that it was planning to make BBC Three an online-only channel from autumn 2015. From this point, the service will be available solely on iPlayer. However, the move has now been delayed while the corporation waits for its governing body, the BBC Trust, to approve its proposals for the channel.

"Once we have the Trust's final decision, we'll start doing more online and in social, building up to a move online -[but] only after Christmas," BBC Three controller Danny Kavanagh told Broadcast magazine. "You simply can't turn around something as groundbreaking as this overnight. We won't be rushed. We will do what's right for our fans, not to satisfy deadlines."

Earlier this year (2015) the BBC Trust launched a full public consultation into BBC Three's move online, allowing licence fee payers to have their say on the corporation's proposals for the channel. The BBC Trust is expected to deliver its final verdict in June.

According to the corporation's proposals for the channel, which is now being considered by the BBC Trust, the new online-only BBC Three will "allow the use of new forms and formats [and] different durations" in programming, with content to be based on what the BBC calls "two key editorial pillars": Make Me Laugh and Make Me Think.

BBC Three was launched in 2003 with a target audience of viewers aged between 16 and 34. The channel's biggest hits over the last decade include Gavin & Stacey, Little Britain, The Mighty Boosh, Torchwood and Being Human.

The Weekend Warrior (lite): The Age of Adaline, Little Boy

Because the month of April is literally ending with a big-time whimper, I’m not going to spend too much time talking about the new wide releases, because frankly, I don’t see either of them doing much business or having much interest.

The Age of AdelineThe time-spanning period drama The Age of Adaline (Summit/Lionsgate), starring Blake Lively as a woman who remains 29 years old for eight decades, has a similar WTF factor as romantic dramas like Richard Curtis’ About Time, The Time Traveler’s Wife and even The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Directed by Lee Toland Krieger and co-starring Harrison Ford, there’s a chance that some older women into period dramas may check it out, but there’s nothing to date that shows Blake Lively to be an actor that can put people in seats and the late April release is a concern. With a crazy wide release (projected at 2,900 theaters) it could probably bring in some business, maybe between $6 and 8 million, but this doesn’t seem like anything people have been waiting impatiently to see.

Similarly, the faith-based period drama Little Boy (Open Road) from Bella director Alejandro Monteverde, is only notable because it’s getting a fairly wide release by Open Road into 2,200 theaters. The best it can do for star power are Tom Wilkinson and a small uncharacteristic dramatic role for Kevin James. The coming-of-age tale of a boy whose father (Michael Rapaport) has been captured in a Japanese POW camp during WWII and the Japanese man he befriends harks back to the 2001 drama Hearts in Atlantis, starring Anthony Hopkins, but the movie just doesn’t have much promotion and is definitely getting dumped. The wider release and PG rating will probably help it make between $3 and 4 million, but it won’t hold much interest beyond older folk unless there’s a big push towards the faith-based crowd that I don’t know about.

The most promising movie of the weekend is in fact the wide expansion of Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller Ex Machina (A24), starring Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander, although not having a definitive theater count at the time of this writing makes it hard to determine how big a push it can get into the Top 10, but reviews and buzz have been great and its has had a decent platform release so far. Number of theaters will determine whether it gets into the Top 10 or ends up just outside.

This Weekend Last Year

file_117396_0_otherwomanww2 The Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman (20th Century Fox), co-starring Leslie Mann and Kate Upton, topped the box office with $24.76 million as it brought in the oft-neglected female audience. Even though it would gross $83 million, the movie’s success still didn’t do much for Diaz’s summer comedy Sex Tape a few months later. The late Paul Walker’s action flick Brick Mansions (Relativity), a remake of the French film District B13, opened in 2,647 theaters to the tune of $9.5 million, enough for fifth place, while the horror movie The Quiet Ones (Lionsgate) tanked with just $3.9 million in 2,027 for seventh place. The Top 10 grossed $97 million and there’s no way this weekend’s offerings can come even close as Furious 7 and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 will remain atop the box office.

This Week’s Predictions

1. Furious 7 (Universal) – $15.4 million -47%
2. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (Sony) – $13.8 million -42%
3. Unfriended (Universal) – $7.6 million -52%
4. Home (DreamWorks Animation/Fox) – $7.0 million -33%
5. The Age of Adaline (Summit/Lionsgate) – $6.8 million N/A
6. The Longest Ride (20th Century Fox) – $3.8 million -45%
7. Little Boy (Open Road) – $3.5 million N/A
8. Woman in Gold (The Weinstein Company) – $3.4 million -25%
9. Monkey Kingdom (Disneynature) – $3.1 million -35%
10. Get Hard (Warner Bros.) – $3 million -39%
 Ex Machina (A24) – $2.7 million

Next Week:

No big deal, just a little sequel called Avengers: Age of Ultron (Marvel Studios/Disney)! It should make some money and sometime before then, we should also have our annual Summer Box Office Preview.

Ryan Gosling 'in talks' to star opposite Harrison Ford in 'Blade Runner 2'

Ryan Gosling is "in negotiations" to star opposite Harrison Ford in the long-awaited sequel to Blade Runner, according to Deadline.

Ridley Scott will not direct the sequel to his 1982 sci-fi classic, but is on board as an executive producer. Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Incendies) is set to direct from a script written by Hampton Fancher, co-writer of the original, and Michael Green, who is also working on Scott's forthcoming Prometheus sequel.

The idea for the sequel, which is said to be set several decades after the conclusion of Blade Runner, was devised by Scott and Fancher. Scott has previously revealed that Ford's iconic character Rick Deckard will not appear in the entirety of Blade Runner 2, saying: "Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act." Ford spoke encouragingly about the Blade Runner sequel earlier this year, saying: "I think it would be very interesting to revisit the character."

Further plot details and the identity of Gosling's character are being kept under wraps. Shooting is apparently due to start next summer (2016).

Blade Runner: The Final Cut, the only version of the film over which Scott had complete creative control, was re-released in UK cinemas earlier this month (April). Read the NME review here.

The trailer is due to be out officially in IMAX theatres on Monday (April 20), however the full clip emerged online overnight. Warner Bros have rushed to remove the video, which was shot by a fan on a handheld device, though thousands of fans have now seen it.

In the clip Ben Affleck's Batman is shown coming face to face with Superman, played by British actor Henry Cavill.

The video starts with a commentator's voice asking, "Is it really surprising that the most powerful man in the world should be a figure of controversy?". Other characters in the film, including Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ray Fisher's Cyborg and Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor, do not feature in the trailer.

The trailer will be officially shown at special 15-minute screening events held in select IMAX theatres in the US next week. It has yet to be announced when the trailer will be made available online or if similar screening events will be held in the UK.

Earlier this month (April) it was reported that the trailer will be shown before all screenings of another Warner Bros. blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, which opens in UK cinemas on May 14, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Zack Snyder finished filming Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice - the eagerly anticipated sequel to 2013's Man Of Steel - in December (2014). His film is set for release on March 25, 2016.

In addition to Cavill, Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent) will all reprise their roles from Man Of Steel.

First four episodes of new 'Game of Thrones' season leak online ahead of HBO premiere

Game of Thrones fans are currently indulging in a big chunk of the new season after the first four episodes leaked online.

Pirated video files are currently available to download via various torrent websites which, as reported by Mashable, appear to have been taken from press DVDs with their digital watermarks blurred out.

It's a huge blow for US television network HBO, which is scheduled to air the first episode of Season 5 tonight. UK audiences will get their first (legal) screening of the premiere at 9pm tomorrow on Sky Atlantic.

The news comes just a week after Game of Thrones producer Greg Spence told The Denver Post that he was worried about potential leaks. "The cast is looping all over the world, sending files back and forth," he said. "Artists are working in special-effects houses all over the world. The files are watermarked, and editors have to confirm in writing that they've deleted them."

This will be the first season that Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin has not written an episode for the show as he is concentrating on completing the sixth novel in his series, The Winds Of Winter.

New Spider-Man will be 15-year-old Peter Parker, says Marvel President

The new Spider-Man will be a "15 or 16-year-old Peter Parker", Marvel's President Kevin Feige has confirmed.

The webslinger will then star in the next instalment in Sony's Spider-Man series, which is set for release on July 28, 2017. For the first time, Marvel's president Kevin Feige will serve as a producer on one of Sony's Spider-Man films, working alongside Sony's Amy Pascal, a veteran of the studio's Spider-Man movies.

"In terms of the age of an actor we'll eventually to cast, I don't know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I'd say 15-16 is right," Feige revealed in a new interview with Collider.

Explaining why Marvel and Sony are keen to introduce a version of the webslinger younger than those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Feige said: "We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there've been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there've been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven't been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character.

Feige continued: "The most obvious being the 'young, doesn't quite fit in' kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn't shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about."

Joss Whedon brands 'Jurassic World' preview clip '70s era sexist'

The Avengers director Joss Whedon has criticised the first preview clip released from Jurassic World, branding it "70s era sexist".

The clip, which premiered yesterday (August 9), features an exchange between Chris Pratt's character Owen Grady, a dinosaur researcher, and Bryce Dallas Howard's character Claire Dearing, the operations manager of the film's Jurassic World theme park. Whedon, known for creating iconic action heroine Buffy Summers, took to Twitter shortly afterwards to share his views on the clip.

...and I'm too busy wishing this clip wasn't 70's era sexist. She's a stiff, he's a life-force - really? Still? https://t.co/qqts4jpSva

— Joss Whedon (@josswhedon) April 10, 2015

Whedon has spoken about sexism in the entertainment interview in the past. In an interview with Digital Spy published earlier this year (2015), the writer-director criticised the makers of comic book movies for perpetuating a "genuine, recalcitrant, intractable sexism, and old-fashioned quiet misogyny".

"You hear 'Oh, [female superheroes] don't work because of these two bad ones that were made eight years ago', there's always an excuse," he said at the time.

Whedon's superhero sequel The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which features Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch among its leads, opens in UK cinemas on April 24. Jurassic World will follow on June 12.

'The Incredibles' writer-director confirms he has started scripting sequel

Brad Bird, writer-director of The Incredibles, has confirmed that he started working on the script for the long-awaited sequel.

Released in 2004, The Incredibles was a computer-animated comedy about a family of superheroes posing as ordinary suburbanites. Bird's movie was a smash at the box office, grossing over $630 million (£410 million) worldwide, and went on to win the Best Animated Feature prize at the 2005 Oscars.

Disney announced in March 2014 that a sequel is in the works and now Bird has given an update. After saying that The Incredibles 2 is "percolating", Bird told NPR: "I'm just starting to write it, so we'll see what happens."

The voice cast for the original The Incredibles film included Bird, Samuel L. Jackson, Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson and John Ratzenberger. The sequel's voice cast has yet to be confirmed but Jackson has said that his character, Frozone, a superhero with the ability to form ice from himself and from humidity in the air, is likely to feature in the second film.

Furious 7 Helmer James Wan Targets Aquaman!

Aquaman

With his latest, Furious 7, about to cross over the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office, The Conjuring‘s James Wan may be getting ready to take a step into the DC Universe. The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that Wan is in talks to helm the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman solo film!

Planned for a July 27, 2018 release, Aquaman is currently being developed as two separate screenplays, one by Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and another by Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire).

The character’s first comic book appearance was in 1941’s “More Fun Comics” #73. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, Aquaman went on to become a founding member of the Justice League of America two decades later. Until now, the character has never made it to the big screen. Aquaman’s sole live-action appearance was as a teen on the WB’s “Smallville.” The character was planned for a spinoff series, “Mercy Reef,” but the property never made it beyond the pilot stage.

Wan’s next big screen project is Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Conjuring 2, set for a June 10, 2016 release. He’s not yet a lock for Aquaman, however, as the trade cautions that his contract on the Fast and the Furious franchise may force him to return for an eighth big screen adventure.

Long before his solo film, however, Momoa’s Aquaman will make his big screen debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. It’s also a near certainty that he’ll be back for Justice League: Part One, arriving November 10, 2017. Aquaman then hits the following summer with Justice League: Part Two following on June 14, 2019.

Star Trek 3 Adds Kingsman’s Sofia Boutella

Sofia Boutella

The cast of the next, still-untitled Star Trek film is coming together. Following word late last month that Idris Elba is in talks to play the film’s villain, comes word, via Deadline, that Algerian actress Sofia Boutella, best known for her recent appearance as the blades-for-legs femme fatale assassin Gazalle in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, has signed on for a mystery role!

The film is set to feature the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. J.J. Abrams, who directed the last two films, is producing the third film in the rebooted franchise. Justin Lin, four-time The Fast and the Furious director, is set to direct from a script by Pegg and Doug Jung.

Paramount Pictures has Star Trek 3 scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release, which happens to be exactly two months to the day before the franchise’s 50th Anniversary. Although it wasn’t the first episode produced, “The Man Trap,” in which the crew of the Enterprise encounters a deadly shapeshifting salt vampire, introduced the world to “Star Trek” on September 8, 1966.

Hayden Christensen to Topline Paramount’s Marco Polo

Hayden2It’s been a decade since Hayden Christensen last appeared as Anakin Skywalker, with only a handful of high-profile films (Jumper, Takers) in the intervening years, but that all looks to change as The Hollywood Reporter reveals the Star Wars star will headline Paramount’s new big screen take on Marco Polo.

Christensen, who still has a large overseas following that helped win him the role, will play the famed Venetian merchant whose chronicle of his 24-year journey into China in the 13th century was critical in introducing Chinese culture to Europe. This new take on the Polo story is being positioned as a fantasy/action reimagining of the voyage, with director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) lined up to direct.

Cohen is no stranger to China, having previously made 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and is currently back in good graces after the enormously profitable The Boy Next Door, which took in $48 million on a $4 million budget. Cohen was at one point working on another seabound fantasy with the revival of Sinbad, which was to star Keanu Reeves but bit the dust after the failure of Stealth.

Although not specifically stated in the Reporter, this looks to be the same (or similar) to a Marco Polo project that was set up at Warner Bros. five years ago with Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence at the helm and Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Assassin’s Creed) writing the screenplay.

“We see this as something that takes place in the Orient of our imagination amid the cultural clash of the East and the West,” said Cooper of that project in 2010.

The historical figure has also been the subject of recent hit Netflix series “Marco Polo,” starring Lorenzo Richelmy and currently renewed for a second season.

Meanwhile, Christensen will next be seen in the religious drama 90 Minutes in Heaven opposite Kate Bosworth, while Cohen will direct the indie art heist thriller Risk.

Eddie Redmayne is the Frontrunner for Harry Potter Spin-off, Fantastic Beasts

Fantastic Beasts

Eddie Redmayne, who just won the Best Actor Oscar for The Theory of Everything, is the frontrunner to play Newt Scamander in Warner Bros. Pictures’ anticipated “Harry Potter” spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, reports Variety. “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling is making her screenwriting debut on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The trade adds that Redmayne has yet to receive an official offer while director David Yates is still considering a few other actors for the role as well. Nicholas Hoult is said to be another name the studio has considered for the part.

The film, scheduled for a November 18, 2016 release, is inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander. Set in the wizarding world, the story will feature magical creatures and characters, some of which will be familiar to devoted Harry Potter fans. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.

The second and third “Fantastic Beasts” films are scheduled for release on November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020.

The Dark Tower Lives as Sony Pictures and MRC Plan Massive Adaptation

The Dark Tower

It’s been quite some time since word broke that Warner Bros. Pictures would not be moving forward with plans for a massive adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. WB was the second studio to ultimately pass on the project after it was initially developed at Universal. Today, however, there’s some very good news for Dark Tower fans as Deadline has just revealed that Sony Pictures and MRC are teaming to make a live-action version of the epic tale a reality. Sony and MRC will co-finance the franchise with Sony developing the first feature film and MRC beginning work on a tie-in television series.

King’s books weave the saga of Roland Deschain, the Gunslinger, a sobriquet that also happens to be the title of the first book in the series. According to the outlet, The Gunslinger will be the primary basis for the first film. The current draft of the screenplay hails from Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Jeff Pinker (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

“I’m excited that ‘The Dark Tower’ is finally going to appear on the screen,” says King. “Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books.”

“There are few projects out there that compare with the scope, vision, complex characters and fully drawn world that Stephen King has created with The Dark Tower,” adds Sony chairman Tom Rothman. “I am a giant fan. And, as Stephen himself does, we love the direction that Akiva and Jeff have taken. This is a great opportunity for a director to put his or her stamp on a cool global franchise.”

Ron Howard was initially planning to direct the first film in the series, although no director is said to be attached at this time. Howard does remain heavily involved, however, producing through his Imagine Entertainment alongside Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. Goldsman is also producing through Weed Road with Pinker set to serve as executive producer.

Although some top level acting talent has eyed The Dark Tower in the past, no one is currently attached. Check back for updates, however, as soon as they become available.

'Twin Peaks' cast launch viral campaign to 'save' new series following David Lynch's exit

The cast of Twin Peaks have launched a viral campaign to "save" the show's planned comeback series following David Lynch's recent exit.

Last October (2014) US cable network Showtime announced that it was bringing back Lynch's cult drama series for a nine-episode run in 2016. Lynch was set to direct from scripts he has co-written with his Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost.

However, Lynch announced on Sunday (April 5) that he is no longer involved in the new episodes, writing on Facebook: "After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing."

Lynch went on to suggest that Twin Peaks' Showtime series could still happen without him, adding: "Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently."

Just 24 hours after news of Lynch's departure broke, actress Mädchen Amick - who played Shelly Johnson in the original Twin Peaks series - posted a video on her WhoSay page yesterday (April 7) with the caption "Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like…" It features home-made clips of many familiar faces from the original Twin Peaks series explaining that they think the revival will be virtually impossible to make without input from Lynch. However, Agent Dale Cooper actor Kyle MacLachlan is conspicuously absent from the video.

Encouraging fans to make their own video messages, Amick wrote on WhoSay: "'Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like…??' …we want to hear from you #peaksies #SaveTwinPeaks - brought to you with love from the cast of #TwinPeaks."

In a statement released shortly after Lynch pulled out on Sunday (April 5), Showtime's President David Nevins insisted that the door remains open for the director to return. "We continue to hold out hope that we can bring [Twin Peaks] back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm," Nevins said.

The channel has ordered 10 new episodes of the chilly thriller, which is set in the fictional Arctic settlement of Fortitude. The show's creator Simon Donald will write "a brand new story" for series two, Sky Atlantic teased.

Donald said in a press release: "It's a privilege to return to Fortitude. It's a place where the real and the feared live side by side, where old dark secrets thaw out into the chill light of the arctic day. I'd never been anywhere like Fortitude before and I can't wait to go back."

Sky Atlantic's Zai Bennett added: "Simon Donald created a unique and unsettling story which, week after week, has captivated our customers. I am absolutely delighted that we will be bringing Fortitude back next year with a story that promises to engage, challenge and enthral us all over again."

Chris Pratt stars in new extended 'Jurassic World' clip - watch

A new extended clip from this summer's Jurassic World has been released.

Jurassic World is set to open in cinemas on June 12, 2015, nearly 14 years after the last instalment in the series, 2001's Jurassic Park III. The first full-length trailer for the dinosaur sequel was released in November and a shorter trailer was shown during the Super Bowl in February.

The official plot synopsis teases: "Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor's interest, which backfires horribly."

Parks And Recreation/Guardians Of The Galaxy star Chris Pratt heads up the film's cast, flanked by Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3, The Help), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days Of Future Past), Ty Simpkins (Insidious) and Judy Greer (Arrested Development).

Colin Trevorrow directs from a script he has co-written, and Steven Spielberg – who directed the first two films in the franchise – is on board as an executive producer. Last year (2014) Trevorrow teased the possibility of sequels to Jurassic World, saying: "We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story."

Former 'EastEnders' actor Ben Hardy 'to play Angel' in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Former EastEnders actor Ben Hardy has reportedly been cast as Angel in next year's X-Men Apocalypse.

Hardy, 24, who made his final appearance on the BBC soap in February having played Peter Beale since 2013, has persistently been linked to Bryan Singer's next X-Men film, and was at one point rumoured to be in the running to play Cyclops.

However, US film journalist Jeff Sneider from the usually highly reliable TheWrap reports that Singer has actually cast Hardy as winged mutant Angel, who previously appeared on screen in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand played by Ben Foster. Singer recently shared production art featuring the character on Instagram.

Singer is due to start shooting X-Men: Apocalypse later this month (April) in Toronto and the film is set for release on May 27, 2016. In February he announced that Kodi Smit-McPhee has been cast as young Nightcrawler and in January he unveiled three other new cast members for X-Men: Apocalypse. Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner – Sansa Stark in the HBO fantasy series – will play Jean Grey; Tye Sheridan will portray Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp, who starred as Aaliyah in a recent US TV biopic, has been cast as Storm. Meanwhile, unknown actress Lana Condor has been cast as Jubilation Lee aka Jubilee.

They join returning cast members Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters, as well as Oscar Isaac, who has been cast as Apocalypse, the villain that gives the film its title. Rose Byrne is also confirmed to be reprising her role as CIA agent Moira MacTaggert from 2011's X-Men: First Class and Hugh Jackman has recently hinted that he will be returning as Wolverine.

Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart has confirmed that he will not be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, but also said that his fellow original X-Men star Ian McKellen "certainly" will have a role.

Netflix is Getting Set to Revive Full House

Full House on Netflix

Add “Full House” to the list of TV series making a comeback! TVLine is reporting that Netflix is close to ordering “Fuller House,” a 13-episode revival of the show that would star Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. Tanner and Andrea Barber as her best friend Kimmy Gibbler.

The site adds that “Full House” stars John Stamos, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier may make guest appearances. Stamos would produce the show as well. The original series’ creator, Jeff Franklin, will executive produce alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett.

This classic ABC sitcom ran eight seasons, with the nontraditional Tanner clan — including sisters D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen), and their twin cousins, Nicky (Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit) and Alex (Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit) — growing up before America’s eyes. Bob Saget, Dave Coulier and John Stamos rounded out the show’s cast as the girls’ devoted father figures.

Stamos, Saget and Coulier appeared together in Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt’s Super Bowl commercial last year. They also appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in 2014. You can watch both clips below!
