The Life Movie Trailer Delivers Stylish Space Terror

Check out the Life movie trailer!

Watch Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds in the Life movie trailer

Sony Pictures has just unleashed a stylish trailer for next summer’s space thriller, Life. In the player below, you can take a first look at the Memorial Day 2017 thriller with the Life movie trailer. You can also watch the international trailer underneath.

Set to a September 12, 1962 John F. Kennedy address at Rice University, the science fiction thriller balances realistic sci-fi terror with the President’s iconic words on America’s plans for space exploration.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya, Life reteams Reynolds with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa and boasts a screenplay from the Deadpool and Zombieland pair of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As you can see for yourself in the Life movie trailer, however, this one is no laughing matter and appears to be somewhat of a cross between Alien and Gravity.

The official description for Life reads as follows:

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

Life is produced by David Ellison and Dana Goldberg alongside Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. Look for it to hit the big screen May 26, 2017.

If you need a space thriller before next summer, Sony still has you covered. 2016 has still to bring us Passengers, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Look for it to hit theaters on December 21st.

The former NBC series also comes up when discussing the grand philosophies of Doctor Strange, some of which have some interesting overlap with some of the ideas expressed in the Bryan Fuller Thomas Harris adaptation. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

The Walking Dead Episode 702 Recap: Meet King Ezekiel

The Walking Dead Episode 702 Recap: Meet King Ezekiel

The Walking Dead Episode 702 Recap: Meet King Ezekiel

Carol and Morgan are being taken to the Kingdom. Carol keeps fading in and out of consciousness. When she is awake, she mistakes the zombies the group is killing for living people. One dude kills a zombie by slicing its face off. That can’t be a very productive way to kill a zombie, but it makes for a cool visual.

At the Kingdom, Carol sleeps for the better part of two days. When she wakes, Morgan (who stayed by her side the whole time) pushes her around the community in a wheelchair. The Kingdom is thriving. Children go to school; there are lush gardens and livestock; and everyone is friendly. Morgan assures Carol that all he told the people of the Kingdom is that they got separated. He is taking her to meet the leader of the Kingdom, and he is hesitant to give his name. Finally: “King Ezekiel.” They meet Ezekiel, sitting on a throne in an auditorium. Beside him is a full-grown tiger. “I forgot to say Ezekiel has a tiger.”

King Ezekiel greets Carol warmly. His language is florid and asks her what she thinks of the king and his kingdom. She immediately slips into sweet n’ innocent Carol mode. She tries not to laugh. “I don’t know what the hell is going on in the most wonderful way!” It was as honest an answer as she could give. Ezekiel tells them to stay; all he asks is that they contribute – when Carol feels up to it. They offer Carol some fruit; she declines.

Once Carol and Morgan are outside, she drops the act. “You’re sh*tting me, right? This place is a damn circus. This is make believe!” She refuses to have any part in the Kingdom, and tells Morgan that as soon as she can, she is out of there. He won’t let her die “out there,” but she reminds him that it’s not up to him.

IMG_0427

Morgan goes with a group to wrangle hogs that now run wild in the city. They are using walkers as bait. All Richard will say about that is that he wants their bellies “full of rot.” A few zombies head towards the group, and Ben is tasked with killing them. He falters and Ezekiel has to finish the walker off. He is supportive though, and tells Ben he will get it next time. As the groups pile into their trucks, Richard tells Morgan that “no one needs to know about this.” Richard and a few others split off. Ezekiel tells Morgan they are going “somewhere else.”

Back at the Kingdom, Ezekiel, impressed with Morgan’s use of the staff, asks him to train Ben. Ben isn’t good with blades or guns, and he needs Ben to live, to flourish, to be his right hand. “The stick couldn’t have saved Carol,” Morgan points out. “Did it save you?” Ezekiel counters. Morgan agrees. Ben seems to take quickly to the staff, and the pair seem to be developing a legitimate bond. Ben asks to borrow Morgan’s philosophy book.

While Ben and Morgan train, Carol wheels herself around town. She steals a knife off a table; she steals fresh clothes off the laundry line.

Ezekiel collects Morgan and asks him to bring a gun. They ride out and meet up with the rest of the “hunting” party, explaining that the pigs are slaughtered far from the Kingdom so their squeals don’t lure in walkers. A couple of trucks roll up, and half a dozen Saviors get out. They are there to collect their loot. They are impressed with the eight pigs they are getting; Richard assures them they were well fed. Diana whispers to Morgan who these guys are, but he cuts her off. He knows who these guys are. The Saviors load up the pigs, but one guy takes issue with Richard, thinks he has been letting him off easy. The Savior takes a swing; Richard swings back, and it turns into a fistfight. All the other people pull guns, including Morgan – but he lowers his quickly. Ezekiel calms his troops, reminding them that this is not what they do. The Savior takes a few more free punches, then his people tell him to chill, too. They expect their next delivery next week. The Saviors leave and Morgan confirms to Ezekiel that he has encountered this group before – the man he killed to save Carol was one of them. Morgan thinks that is why Ezekiel brought him along: in case he needed someone else killed. Ezekiel assures him that is not the case.

IMG_0428

Morgan eats lunch with Ben and Walt, a little kid Ben is raising (it is unclear if Walt is a relation). Ezekiel and Ben’s dad were good friends. His dad was a great fighter, and part of a team Ezekiel sent to clear out a building. They lost eight men that day, Ben’s dad being one of them. Ezekiel is a lot more careful now. He doesn’t tell the rest of the Kingdom about the other group they give supplies to because he thinks the Kingdom will want to fight, and they will lose. Ben invites Morgan to movie night, but Morgan has to go talk to Carol. But when he gets to her room, he finds it empty. He’s not surprised.

It is night. Carol steals an apple off a tree – and is caught by Ezekiel and Jerry. Carol slips back into her innocent role, claiming that she isn’t any good to them. Ezekiel dismisses Jerry, and talks to Carol privately. He knows that her sweet and innocent act is just an act – it got Ezekiel. He knows the guns she was carrying belonged to the Saviors, and that meant she beat the Saviors. Carol drops the act and tells Ezekiel honestly that he and his “kingdom” are a joke. He is selling a fairy tale. Ezekiel drops the royal act and sits beside her for a little real talk.

Ezekiel suggests that his people need the fairy tale. People want someone to follow, to make them feel safe. “They see a guy with a tiger and make the guy larger than life. Who am I to burst their bubble?” Next thing he knew, people were treating him like royalty; he faked it until he made it. Before the zombie apocalypse, Ezekiel (he assures Carol that is his real name) was a zookeeper. Shiva fell into a concrete pit in her habitat and her leg was ripped open. The vets were on their way, but Shiva was in terrible pain and in danger of bleeding out before the vets could arrive. He knew it was stupid and dangerous, but he jumped into the habitat and wrapped Shiva’s leg in his shirt. He saved her life and from that day on, Shiva never so much as bared a tooth to him. He understands that it is not practical to keep a tiger, but he lost all of his loved ones. He ended up back at the zoo and found Shiva was one of the last animals left. She was hungry and alone and was the last thing left in the world that he loved.

IMG_0429

Ezekiel insists Carol keep this information to herself. Frankly Carol doesn’t care what he does; she just wants to go away. Ezekiel is sorry for whatever bad she has been through, but he can’t believe it is all bad, because life isn’t all bad. “Where there is life, there is hope.” Ezekiel deals with the bad by going overboard on the good. Carol asks why he cares so much about what she does. “Because it makes me feel good.” He suggests he go and not go.

This “go and not go” strategy sees Morgan and Carol on horseback, riding to an abandoned house (with a cemetery in the front yard!), one that they passed on their way to the Kingdom. This is where Carol is going to live: alone, but within reasonable distance to friends. She and Morgan have grown close, and Carol says she might have changed her mind about leaving had they been together much longer. They say goodbye and Morgan returns to the Kingdom with Carol’s horse. Carol approaches her new home carefully. There is a zombie inside. She kills it easily and buries it in the cemetery.

As Carol builds a fire, there is a knock at the door and she tenses up. The knock is followed by a growl, and she relaxes. At the door is Ezekiel and Shiva, bearing a gift of fruit. It looks like they are setting up Carol and Ezekiel to be a couple. In the comic, it is Ezekiel and Michonne that get together, but she is otherwise entangled with Rick.

It was nice that this was a breezy, lighthearted episode after last week. Ezekiel is the complete opposite of Negan. Plus – a tiger! Even if it is a digital tiger, I am very excited to see what Shiva will do.

Nate Parker Accused of Indecent Exposure in Newly Uncovered Penn State Records

Nate Parker

It’s Nate Parker’s past, again. According to The New York Times, a state investigation into how Penn State officials are handling the Jerry Sandusky molestation case found that the “Birth of a Nation” director was accused of indecent exposure in 2000,

Parker was accused of rape in 1999, but was later acquitted of the charges. While he was on trial for the case, a female student trainer reported that he exposed himself to her, but she decided not to go to the police, despite urging from the university. From there, Penn State dropped the matter.

The Times reports that documents __show the university may have been “lenient” with Parker, who was suspended from the wrestling team when he was criminally charged but reinstated in the fall of 2000.

While the actor and filmmaker aren’t involved in the Sandusky case, Tim Curley, one of three former university officials who are being prosecuted, is said to have “played a role in how the university dealt with the exposure complaint against Mr. Parker, according to interviews with several people, including the woman who made the complaint.”

State investigators are now looking into whether Penn State mishandled Parker’s exposure incident.

“Prosecutors are trying to assess whether the school’s handling of Mr. Parker suggests a broader pattern of inaction by the athletic department when it came to complaints of sexual misconduct,” the Times reported.

Parker’s lawyer, David J. Matlof, gave a statement to the publication: “This is the first Mr. Parker has ever heard of this. He recognizes the seriousness of the issue, but this claim is completely untrue.”

‘True Detective’ With Teenage Girls: New Web Series ‘Cold’ Shines Light On a Murder Mystery

Annalise Basso in "Cold."

New Form Digital

Even the most ignorant Americans are now aware of the murders of unarmed black men by police officers, but fewer people know that Canadian police officers have their own way of “accidentally” murdering indigenous men and women: By driving them miles away from the nearest town and leaving them outside to freeze to death. At least three Canadian Aboriginal men are thought to have been murdered this way in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the early 2000’s. The murders are incredibly difficult to prove, and a 2003 investigation was not able to result in a conviction. The investigations did bring wider attention to the practice, which became known as taking someone on a “Starlight Tour.”

Not exactly the kind of story one would pitch as a web series aimed at teenagers, which is why the excellent new series “Cold” feels like a breath of (freezing) fresh air. Created by Canadian newcomer Emily Diana Ruth and produced by New Form Digital, “Cold” is an exacting thriller awash in the crisp grandiosity of the Canadian landscape that provides its fitting setting. From its breathtaking drone shots, ominous original soundtrack, and restrained yet gripping storytelling, ‘Cold’ is a gale force to reckoned with.

Young Isla’s (Annalise Basso) red hair pops brilliantly against the whites and grays of northern Canada’s snowy fields and country roads. She is a bright spot amidst all this bleakness, the cherubic-faced city girl rolling into town in search of answers about her past. From the opening shots, however, we know that Isla is not welcomed warmly to her one-time hometown, someone has bound and gagged her in the trunk of their car, and then released her into the cold, dark night. Four days earlier, she is stealing license plates and hiding out at cheap motels (“The kind of place that doesn’t rent by the hour”), asking for directions to the local prison.

Until recently, Isla thought that her father and mother were both killed in a car accident, which is why was sent to live with her uncle in Toronto. But a letter from her father confirms that he is alive, if not well. In reality, Thomas (Todd Lowe of “True Blood”) has been serving time for the murder of her mother, though he claims he is innocent. Isla is desperate to meet her father and hear his side of the story, but she must evade the efforts of her Uncle Nathan (Jim True-Frost of “The Wire”), who has reported Isla missing and is offering a $10,000 reward for information on her whereabouts. She finds a friend in Tina, the hotel clerk with ties to the First Nations community who helps her track down some of her mother’s former social work clients.

The mystery unfolds steadily, taking more than a few surprising but remaining grounded in reality. “Cold” has much to work with when it comes to the raw material of Northern Canada, and Ruth honors her chosen backdrop with much screen time and a sharp cinematic eye. The young director shows great maturity with her commitment to casting the First Nations characters with actors of First Nations descent, giving them the job of introducing the Starlight Tours. By placing Tina front and center at Isla’s side, the indigenous people are honored, not co-opted. “Cold” is Isla’s journey, however, and Ruth does not let her young protagonist off the hook, allowing her to put her foot in her mouth on more than one occasion.

New Form Digital

Short form series made for the web (with this kind of storytelling, the term “web series” seems almost too quaint) are most successful when sticking to comedies with pithy premises. “Awkward Black Girl” tells you all you need to know. “High Maintenance” is an easy sell with a quick explanation: Weed delivery guy visits a new client each episode. “Cold” defies conventional web series wisdom, instead opting for slow-burn storytelling and a bleak premise in an even bleaker setting. But if audiences love thrillers on television, why wouldn’t they watch one made exclusively to live online? It’s a gamble New Form was willing to take, and it paid off.

Grade: A

11 Halloween Costume Ideas, Courtesy of Signature Netflix TV Shows

"Stranger Things."

“Stranger Things.”

Netflix

The range of programming currently being hosted by Netflix is really impressive — from comedy to drama to unscripted — and that means a wide array of possible costume ideas as well.

READ MORE: 11 Halloween Costume Ideas, Courtesy of 2016 Indie Films

Following our list earlier this week, featuring costume ideas drawn from the independent film world, we’re proud to present some options for celebrating your favorite characters from the streaming world. (Most are relatively low-effort, too, just in case you’ve waited until the last minute.)

Bill Nye from “Bill Nye Saves the World”

Bill-Nye-4Costume Essentials: Blazer with a spiffy bow tie. Science in your veins.

Why It’s a Great Idea: Nye’s new series won’t premiere until Spring 2017, but celebrating science is always cool, as are bow ties. And so what if someone mistakes you for Eleven from “Doctor Who”? Two for one!

BoJack Horseman from “BoJack Horseman”BoJack Horseman - Dirty Sexy Monkey

Costume Essentials: Horse mask, brightly patterned sweater, blazer, flask.

Why It’s a Great Idea: Being BoJack is only one of the fantastic costume options from our favorite animated existential crisis comedy (for an even more low-fi option, consider donning Todd’s red beanie or Character Actress Margo Martindale’s Emmy). And BoJack himself might see and like your costume! Just tag it on Twitter appropriately.

Queen Elizabeth II from “The Crown”

"The Crown."

Costume Essentials: Simple 1950s dress, very fancy crown

Why It’s a Great Idea: Netflix’s upcoming royal drama’s focus is on the inner life of the young queen during her first decade on the throne, so what better way to exemplify it than by showcasing that sort of contrast in your look?

Shaolin Fantastic from “The Get Down”

"The Get Down"Costume Essentials: Red T-shirt, red flat cap, headphones

Why It’s a Great Idea: “The DJ that we call conductor” has more than one strong look in Baz Luhrman’s period musical, but this one’s probably the easiest to execute. If you get ambitious, try carrying around a boombox blasting the “Get Down” soundtrack. The beat deserves to be shared with all.

Wintertime Rory and Lorelei from “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”

Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life"

Costume Essentials: Knit cap and scarf, stylish long coat, a to-go coffee cup velcro-ed to your glove, someone who looks like she could be your older or younger sister dressed similarly

Why It’s a Great Idea: The Gilmore girls’ bond is a special one, built on junk food and a hazy line between parental and bestie. If you’re lucky enough to have this already in your life, flaunt it! But for the rest of us schmucks, playing dress-up is the closest we’ll get to such #GilmoreGoals. Either way, you need an outlet for your rapid-fire, pop-culture-reference-laden banter (and you can stash non-coffee liquid librations in that cup).

Frank Underwood from “House of Cards”House of Cards Kevin Spacey Season 4

Costume Essentials: The suit is key here — as clean-cut and Presidential if you can, with the flag lapel pin as a bonus. But the real achievers will find the classic Frank Underwood cufflinks, with the eternal message of “F.U.”

Why It’s a Great Idea: This is really just a fun opportunity to whip out your worst, most over-the-top Southern accent. Feel free to turn towards an unseen audience at any moment and reveal your darkest desires and schemes.

Early Daredevil from “Marvel’s Daredevil”

DaredevilCostume Essentials: Black sweatsuit and a simple cloth black mask that ties around the back of your head.

Why It’s a Great Idea: Do you need more of a reason other than getting to wear comfy sweats? OK, fine. Black is slimming, you can pretend that since you’re blind, your other senses are heightened (“Someone is about to fart!”) and if you see your ex while you’re out, you can ignore them with impunity. Daredevil is the first of the Defenders, so companion costumes would be next level…

Jessica Jones from “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”

Krysten Ritter in "Marvel

Costume Essentials: Leather jacket, scarf, jeans, boots, bourbon

Why It’s a Great Idea: Comfortable, practical and bad-ass, pretending to be Jessica Jones is probably a lot more fun than actually being Jessica Jones (given the PTSD and other trauma). Stomping around town in her persona might be the most liberating Halloween of your life.

Luke Cage from “Marvel’s Luke Cage”

"Marvel

Costume Essentials: A hole-y hoodie to demonstrate how bulletproof you are. It helps if you also have rippling muscles, a bald/shaved head and a killer smile.

Why It’s a Great Idea: You can exclaim, “Sweet Christmas!” every few minutes, which is conversational gold. And if you break anything (maybe bring your own props?) you can blame it on your super strength. Besides, isn’t it time to __show that “heroes can wear hoodies too”?

Eleven from “Stranger Things”Stranger Things

Costume Essentials: Obvious fake blonde wig, pink thrift store dress, Eggo waffles. (If you want to really go for it, add a touch of a fake nosebleed.)

Why It’s a Great Idea: The summer’s breakout series will probably feature heavily in a lot of peoples’ costume plans, but Eleven is probably the easiest to pull off.

Titus Andromedon from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Costume Essentials: Two words: Fabulous kimono.

Why It’s a Great Idea: With the right robe and the right attitude, being Titus could be an awful lot of fun. Lots of good accessory ideas to be had here, too, from a Walkman for your tapes to some Peeno Noir.

‘Rambo’ Reboot in the Works Without Sylvester Stallone

Rambo Sylvester Stallone

SNAP/REX/Shutterstock

Nostalgia is ruling the entertainment industry with reboots and remakes being frequently announced. Now word has spread that another iconic character is returning to the big screen: John Rambo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a “Rambo” reboot is being developed by Nu Image/Millennium Films. The project, still in its early stages, is titled “Rambo: New Blood” and will have “The Criminal” helmer Ariel Vromen as director. Brooks McLaren is penning the script. Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the 1980s franchise, will not be starring and the studio is looking to cast a new, younger actor as the action hero.

No additional plot details were revealed, only that the company is looking to treat Rambo as a character akin to James Bond.

John Rambo was created by David Morrell in his 1972 novel “First Blood,” which was adapted for the screen in 1982. Stallone starred as the troubled war veteran in a total of four films: “First Blood” (1982), “Rambo: First Blood Part II” (1985),” Rambo III” (1988), and 2008’s “Rambo.” The character quickly became a fan-favorite and has cemented itself in pop culture history.

Last year Stallone reprised his role of Rocky Balboa for the Ryan Coogler film “Creed,” earning himself a Golden Globe in the Best Supporting Actor category and a Best Actor Oscar nomination. When asked earlier this year if he’d portray Rambo again, he told Variety he had no intention of reprising his role. “The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!’ It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else,” he said. Adding, “There’s nothing left. When they asked me to do another ‘Rambo,’ I said, ‘If I can’t do better than I did last time, and I can’t, then why’?”

A “Rambo” TV series is also in development at Fox and will focus on the character’s son, J.R.

‘Second Nature’ Exclusive Trailer Debut: Gender Roles Switch In Political Comedy Starring Collette Wolfe and Sam Huntington

Second Nature

“Second Nature”

What would the world look like if gender roles were reversed? How would things change? Michael Cross’ new comedy “Second Nature” takes a hard look at gender stereotyping by seeing what would happen if a man and a woman campaigned against each other in a world where women experience traditionally male privilege.

Upon the sudden death of a local politician, Amanda (Collette Wolfe) and Bret (Sam Huntington) both jump at the chance to run for mayor, but the two former classmates have very different ideas about how to run their small town. Amanda hopes to protect those in need, while the womanizing Bret has a pro strip club agenda and is backed by the corrupt and inept city council. But when Bret snatches an antique, magic mirror from Amanda’s hands during a heated argument, their world completely flips upside down. Watch

“As a man, I have observed the gender bias that all of the women I know are constantly encountering,” said Cross. “Despite significant progress toward equality in our modern society, there is still a persistent bias against women, and apathy toward the change that is still needed. This sparked a desire in me to create a story that not only acknowledges, but explores this issue. I asked, ‘What if roles were reversed – wouldn’t the world be better?'”

‘Dog Eat Dog’ Exclusive Clip: Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe Go After One Last Score In Paul Schrader’s Latest Crime Drama

Dog Eat Dog

“Dog Eat Dog”

RLJ Entertainment

In 2014, Paul Schrader and Nicolas Cage made the crime drama “Dying of the Light,” but both figures later disowned the film after the studio denied Schrader final-cut privileges and re-edited the film without his permission. Now, the two have returned with a new film “Dog Eat Dog,” co-starring Willem Dafoe (“Platoon”) and Schrader himself, about a group of ex-cons who are hired by the Cleveland mafia to kidnap a rival mobster’s baby. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

Best known for writing the screenplays for Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull,” Schrader tells IndieWire’s own Anne Thompson that he felt “free” making the film, especially with his crew of young, mostly first-time technicians. “When someone says, ‘Let’s think outside the box,’ they’re already inside the box,” Schrader says. “I wanted to collect people from what I called the post-rules generation, in their 20s. Our parents’ generation created rules, my generation broke the rules, Tarantino’s generation laughed at the rules. This new generation doesn’t even know there are rules. Those were the people I wanted. They came from commercials and video games and fashion and documentaries.”

“Dog Eat Dog” was the closing entry for the Director’s Fortnight section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It later screened at the Toronto Film Festival and the London Film Festival. It will open in New York and Los Angeles theaters on November 4, followed by a theatrical expansion and a VOD/Digital HD release on November 11.

‘Stranger Things’ Gets the ‘Peanuts’ Treatment in Christmas-Themed Mashup

Stranger Things Peanuts

YouTube

“Stranger Things” envisioned as “Peanuts” is the mashup we didn’t know we needed, but are grateful someone made it. Titled “A Stranger Things Christmas,” the video was created by Leigh Lahav and Oren Mendez and is a play on the holiday classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

In the 3-minute short, Will Byers is the Charlie Brown of the group and can’t seem to shake off his traumatic experience in the Upside Down.

“I think there’s something wrong with me Dustin,” Will tells his Linus-esque buddy. “I like that I’m not trapped in the Upside Down and hiding from monsters anymore. But I’m still not happy.”

Dustin recommends he seek psychiatric help from Eleven’s booth, even though her advice makes Will reply “good grief!” He then tries to get some help from his mom, who’s also been through some emotional distress, but gets the typical wah-wah adult response.

The video also features an adorable dance number set to the show’s theme song and a Snoopy-like character that fits perfectly with the reconfiguration. Yes, there’s even a Barb cameo.

You know, the ones that Princess gives to R2-D2, setting off the epic story that has spanned decades? Jones was also recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in The Theory of Everything.

Before Rogue One and Inferno hit this holiday season, check out our favorite Felicity Jones movies and television performances. Which ones are your favorites? Which ones did we leave out? Let us know in the comments!

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: The Worst Witch (1998-1999)

The Worst Witch is where our Felicity Jones movies and TV spotlight begins.

Before Harry Potter, there was The Worst Witch, a British TV series about two young witches at a school for magic. Jones starred as Ethel Hallow alongside Georgina Sherrington as Mildred Hubble. (The role was played by Anna Kipling in the American TV movie). The show was based on the series of the same name by Jill Murphy. Jones was replaced by Katy Allen after the first season and Ethel’s appearance change was explained by a “witch over.” She returned for the sequel Weirdsister College from 2001-2002.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: Northanger Abbey (2007)

Northanger Abbey is next up in our Felicity Jones movies and TV spotlight.

In the British TV version of the Jane Austen novel, Jones plays Catherine Morland, a teenager who loves Gothic romance novels. After a trip to Bath with friends, she is invited to stay at Northanger Abbey and comes up with a terrible theory about a woman’s demise. As with most Austen novels, there is romance, broken proposals and spurned lovers. The broadcast was very well-received.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: Brideshead Revisited (2008)

Brideshead Revisited could not be left out of our Felicity Jones movies and TV spotlight.

This __film is based on the 1945 Evelyn Waugh novel and was seen earlier as a TV series. It’s the story of a young man named Charles (Matthew Goode) who befriends a rich man named Sebastian (Ben Whishaw) and falls in love with his sister Julia (Hayley Atwell). The course of true love never did run smooth and religion, alcoholism and money get in the way of everyone’s happiness. Jones plays Julia’s younger sister Cordelia (she’s the one with the braids in the picture).

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: Doctor Who (2008)

Doctor Who is another important entry in our Felicity Jones movies and TV spotlight.

In the Doctor Who episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp,” the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) travel to England in 1926. Jones plays Robina Redmond, one of the murder suspects during a dinner party who’s guest of honor is none other than Agatha Christie (Fenella Woolgar).

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: The Diary of Anne Frank (2009)

Another one of the great Felicity Jones movies is The Diary of Anne Frank.

In this version of the famous diary kept by teenaged Holocaust victim Anne Frank (Tamsin Greig), Jones plays her sister Margot Frank. The BBC series ran for five episodes in the UK and was cut from 150 minutes to 100 minutes for the American broadcast. Anne, Margot and their family, as well as another family hid for years in an attic from Nazi forces, though were eventually found. All of the inhabitants other than Anne and Margot’s father Otto (Ian Glen) were put to death in concentration camps. Otto later released Anne’s diary as a book that generations of children have since read.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: Chéri (2009)

The Felicity Jones movies spotlight continues with Cheri.

This film stars Michelle Pfeiffer as a courtesean named Léa who is in love with a much younger man who’s nickname is Chéri (Rupert Friend). Their doomed affair is brought abruptly to a halt when Chéri is forced to marry the much younger Edmée (Jones). Try as they might, nothing can keep star-crossed lovers apart, though things don’t go well for them. They most certainly don’t go well for the young Edmée who cannot compete with Léa.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: The Tempest (2010)

The Tempest is another of the best Felicity Jones movies.

This Julie Taymor version of Shakespeare’s play did a bit of gender-bending with Helen Mirren starring as the sorceress Prospera (the sorcerer is named Prospero in the play). Prospera lives alone on an island with her daughter Miranda (Jones), an innocent who has never met a man. When a ship lands on the island after Prospera causes a tempest in revenge for her exile, she falls in love with Ferdinand (Reeve Carney). The film also starred Djimon Hounsou as Caliban, the creature Prospera keeps as a slave, Ben Whishaw as the spirit Ariel and Russell Brand as the jester Trinculo.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: Like Crazy (2011)

Like Crazy is another one of the acclaimed Felicity Jones movies.

This film also stars the late Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence, and is the story of a British student attending college in the United States. She falls in love with Jacob, but stays past her visa expiration and is denied entry back into the U.S after leaving. They try desperately to keep their love alive, but neither one of them can regain their innocent affection after circumstances keep them apart for so long.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

The amazing spiderman 2 continues our look at the best Felicity Jones movies.

In this film, Jones plays Felicia Hardy, who comic book fans know as Black Cat (though it didn’t happen in the film and her surname was only revealed in a marketing video). She’s Norman Osborn’s (Chris Cooper) assistant. The franchise has since ended and is being rebooted through a partnership between Marvel and Sony.

Felicity Jones Movies and TV Spotlight: The Theory of Everything (2014)

The Theory of Everything is one of the most acclaimed Felicity Jones movies.

This film is the story of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and is based on the memoir “Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen” by his ex-wife Jane Wilde Hawking. Jones plays Jane, from the time the two meet in college, through Stephen’s diagnosis of motor neuron disease and their marriage and ultimate divorce. Jones starred opposite Eddie Redmayne and the film received a slew of award nominations. Jones was nominated for Best Actress and Redmayne for Best Actor, which he won.

Channel 4 and AMC Teaming on Dramedy Loaded

Channel 4 and AMC Teaming on Dramedy Loaded

Channel 4 and AMC teaming on dramedy Loaded

Channel 4 is partnering with AMC as co-producer of Loaded, an eight-part series that follows four tech entrepreneurs and childhood friends who become multi-millionaires overnight. A co-production between AMC, Channel 4, Hillbilly Television and Keshet UK, Loaded will be an English-language version based on the award-wining Keshet International series Mesudarim created by Muli Segev and Assaf Harel. Jon Brown (Veep, Fresh Meat) is writer and executive producer. Ian Fitzgibbon (Moone Boy, Raised by Wolves) will direct the first three episodes of the series.

Loaded centers around the lives of tech entrepreneurs and friends Josh, Leon, Watto and Ewan, who have just sold their start up video game company for hundreds of millions of pounds – the culmination of a billion man-hours of blood, sweat, toil, coding, shouting, swearing, fighting, hugging, pitching, grinding, and, occasionally, showering. Overnight, the four 30-something friends are transformed from “people who play games” to “serious players in the game.” Amid a raging hurricane of money, excess and “millionaire’s guilt”, Loaded is about friendship, ambition, gluttony, the peculiar distaste for other people’s success and how money can put even life-long friendships to the test.

Jim Howick (The Aliens, Yonderland, Horrible Histories) takes the role of Josh. Fretful and essentially decent, he’s the moral compass of the group, the most sensible of them. Riddled with insecurities, his decisions are driven mostly from a deep sense of worry and anxiety. Eternally cautious, he’s always anticipating a disaster, scared that his money will get taken away from him at any moment. So instead he focuses all his energies on getting his ex-girlfriend Abi back, which causes problems with his best friend Leon, with whom Abi has a hate/hate relationships.

Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who, Trollied) plays Leon, the Business Development Director of their company Idyl Hands. He’s in charge of securing investment and is, clearly, very good at it. Deeply charismatic and usually able to get exactly what he wants, Leon believes money will open any door, but is surprised, then disillusioned, when it doesn’t. Massively confident, bordering on cocky, this front masks his own insecurities and a sense of pride that can get him into trouble. He is, however, deeply loyal to his friends and won’t let anyone else take credit for what they have achieved together.

Jonny Sweet (Babylon, Together, Him & Her) plays Ewan, Director of the Coding Team and in charge of all the technical aspects of Idyl Hands. A slightly awkward personality, and an innate introvert, he’s a delicate soul who suffers from IBS, motion sickness, nosebleeds and feels unrecognised by the wider world after years stuck behind a screen. With his new wealth, and an exciting new relationship, the worm is about to turn – what will the group do when their beta pal makes moves to become the alpha male?

Nick Helm (Uncle, Funny Valentines) takes the role of the eccentric Watto. A talented artist who drew the artwork for their hit game, Watto is recently sober after years of drug and alcohol use. Replacing one compulsive habit with another, he loves the thrill of spending large amounts of cash on flamboyantly useless items but at once suffers a crippling emptiness in the immediate aftermath of a splurge. A flighty character with few roots to keep him grounded, his commitment to his friends and Idyl Hands is the longest of his life and his mates play a big part in his sobriety.

Mary McCormack (The West Wing, Deep Impact, K-Pax) plays Casey, Vice President for Acquisitions at the parent company that has bought Idyl Hands. On the surface she’s a ruthless, immaculate and forthright business executive who refuses to suffer fools gladly. Emotionally distant and with a super tough exterior, she’s prone to sudden bursts of feeling when it suits her which belie a much more vulnerable side.

The series will go into production early next month and is slated to premiere on Channel 4 and AMC in 2017.

Executive producers on Loaded are Kate Norrish and Polly Leys for BAFTA-winning Hillbilly Television (The Level, Random, Holy Flying Circus); Howard Burch, Avi Nir, Muli Segev and Assaf Harel for Keshet; and Jon Brown. Charlie Leech (The Wrong Mans, The Aliens, Lovesick) is Producer. Roberto Troni and Lee Mason are Commissioning Editor and Commissioning Executive for Channel 4.

Phil Clarke, Head of Scripted at Channel 4, said: “After such a successful collaboration on ‘Humans’, we’re thrilled to be partnering once again with AMC. Jon Brown is one of the most talented young British writers around, demonstrated by his ability to turn the dream of instant riches into the worst nightmare imaginable. We can’t wait to see the brilliant cast bring to life the motley crew at Idyl Hands. We’re so excited to be working alongside AMC, Hillbilly Television and Keshet UK on this hilarious, astute and timely comedy drama.”

“A smart and somewhat light-hearted look at all of the things that can go wrong when you’re suddenly very, very rich; and very, very young felt like a perfect show for our times,” said Joel Stillerman, president of programming, AMC and SundanceTV. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Channel 4 and Keshet International and to begin a new one with Hillbilly and the very talented writer, Jon Brown, director, Ian Fitzgibbon and this terrific cast.”

Kate Norrish and Polly Leys, Producers at Hillbilly Television said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with AMC, C4, Keshet UK and the fabulously talented Jon Brown on ‘Loaded.’ It is a fresh, funny and pertinent take on four friends trying to cling on to the slats of their friendship in the eye of a hurricane of money and excess – and with this cast it’s going to be a hell of a ride. Four freshly minted millionaires working alongside people who still have to bring in their lunch from home. An office of haves and have-nots. Like Downtown Abbey with nerds.”

Howard Burch, Head of Drama at Keshet UK, said, “It’s so exciting to be teaming up again with our friends at AMC to bring ‘Loaded’ to an even wider audience. Great comedies are an important part of the global market and it’s fantastic that AMC are joining us for the ride. Working with Jon and Ian and the Hillbilly team I have little doubt that Loaded will go on to make a fresh and hilarious, excess-laden splash.”

The Final Rules Don’t Apply Trailer is Here

The Final Rules Don

The final Rules Don’t Apply trailer is here

20th Century Fox has revealed the final Rules Don’t Apply trailer, which you can watch using the player below. You can also view the new poster in the gallery underneath.

Rules Don’t Apply is Warren Beatty’s first __film as a director since 1998’s Bulworth. The __film stars Lily Collins (The Mortal Instruments: City of BonesMirror Mirror) and Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!, the upcoming Han Solo spin-off movie), and features Beatty as the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes.

An aspiring young actress (Lily Collins) and her ambitious young driver (Alden Ehrenreich) struggle hopefully with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire (Warren Beatty), who they work for.

It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his 7th grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.

“I never lost my curiosity about him,” said Beatty of his decades-long attempt to make a movie about Hughes. “We never met, but I sometimes feel like I knew everybody who knew Howard and I never lost my curiosity about him. It’s just that I don’t run around doing movies all the time.” The filmmaker and Hollywood legend — who hasn’t so much as appeared in a film since 2001’s Town & Country — also emphasizes that “this ain’t a biopic about Howard Hughes,” and that “It has some good laughs in it.”

The film’s star-studded cast also includes Haley Bennett, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Broderick, Candice Bergen, Steve Coogan, Martin Sheen, Ed Harris, Oliver Platt and Annette Bening.

20th Century Fox will release Rules Don’t Apply theatrically in the U.S. on November 23.

A Hollywood newcomer, Michael Chaves recently directed the acclaimed short film, The Maiden, which you can watch for yourself in the player at the bottom of this page.

You can also click here to check out some of Michael Chaves’ other work, including a number of commercials.

Although little is known about the new film’s plot, the action is said to play out on a global scale.

Platinum Dunes has released three films this year, all of them sequels. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows served as a followup to the 2014 film, while The Purge: Election Year offered a third chapter in the satirical horror franchise. Rounding out the list is Ouija: Origin of Evil, which debuted in theaters last week to rave reviews.

New Split Trailer: M. Night Shyamalan’s Latest Gets Crazy

Universal Pictures has released the second trailer for Split, the new film from director M. Night Shyamalan. You can watch the new Split trailer in the player below!

RELATED: Fantastic Fest 2016: Split Review

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the film.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

For Split, Shyamalan and Blum reassemble their core team from The Visit, the No. 1-grossing horror __film of 2015. Their fellow collaborators include producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.

Split is set to open in theaters January 20, 2017.
