'Girls' cast to join Lena Dunham during 'The Simpsons' guest appearance

The cast of Girls are to join Lena Dunham during her upcoming guest appearance on The Simpsons.

Dunham has a previously announced guest role on the animated sitcom's Season 27 premiere, set to air this autumn, and now Entertainment Weekly has learned that her co-stars Allison Williams (Marnie), Jemima Kirke (Jessa) and Zosia Mamet (Shoshanna) will also appear during the episode.

"We're having a Girls reunion, even though Girls is still on the air," the show's executive producer Al Jean joked.

Dunham will play a "young, funny pharmacist" named Candace who begins a romance with Homer Simpson after Marge files for divorce, with Williams, Kirke and Mamet appearing as Candace's friends. "They're asking her the question that anybody normally would: 'Why Homer?', fulfilling the role that Patty and Selma have played on the show all these years," Jean explained.

Season Four of Girls drew to a close last month (March) and Dunham's show will return for its fifth season on HBO and Sky Atlantic in early 2016.
