'The Incredibles' writer-director confirms he has started scripting sequel

Brad Bird, writer-director of The Incredibles, has confirmed that he started working on the script for the long-awaited sequel.

Released in 2004, The Incredibles was a computer-animated comedy about a family of superheroes posing as ordinary suburbanites. Bird's movie was a smash at the box office, grossing over $630 million (£410 million) worldwide, and went on to win the Best Animated Feature prize at the 2005 Oscars.

Disney announced in March 2014 that a sequel is in the works and now Bird has given an update. After saying that The Incredibles 2 is "percolating", Bird told NPR: "I'm just starting to write it, so we'll see what happens."

The voice cast for the original The Incredibles film included Bird, Samuel L. Jackson, Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson and John Ratzenberger. The sequel's voice cast has yet to be confirmed but Jackson has said that his character, Frozone, a superhero with the ability to form ice from himself and from humidity in the air, is likely to feature in the second film.
