Second trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' debuts - watch

Disney and Lucasfilm have unveiled the second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The trailer was premiered at the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California earlier today (April 16) during a panel featuring the film's director JJ Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy, which was live-streamed on StarWars.com. The new trailer is exactly two minutes long, filled with previously unseen footage and features a glimpse of two familiar faces right at the end.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18 this year and takes place 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi. The film's script was penned by Abrams, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt and Star Wars franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan. All plot details are being kept tightly under wraps.

Alongside the returning trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, the film's cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis. The first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, around 30 seconds shorter than the second, premiered in December and has now racked up over 100m views on YouTube.

Last month (March) Disney confirmed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be followed by an eighth Star Wars film, currently untitled, in 2017. It will be preceded in 2016 by a spin-off film titled Rogue One starring The Theory Of Everything actress Felicity Jones.
