'Suicide Squad' director shares first picture of Jared Leto as The Joker

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has shared the first picture of Jared Leto as The Joker.

Leto was the only main cast member absent from the full cast photo Ayer posted on Wednesday (April 8) so the director made amends earlier today (April 10) by tweeting a picture of Leto dressed as the iconic super-villain, complete with the character's trademark green hair.

Ayer is due to start shooting the eagerly-anticipated film following a team of infamous DC Comics super-villains later this month (April). Alongside Leto as The Joker, Will Smith has been cast as Deadshot, Jai Courtney will play Boomerang, Margot Robbie will portray Harley Quinn and Cara DeLevigne is the film's Enchantress. Joel Kinnaman bagged the role of Rick Flag after a scheduling clash forced Tom Hardy to pull out of the film.

Meanwhile, How To Get Away With Murder Star star Viola Davis will appear in a supporting role as Amanda Waller, a government agent who is often put in charge of the 'suicide squad', a team of super-villains working for the government in return for their freedom. Warner Bros. has set Suicide Squad for release on August 5, 2016.
