NWA biopic 'Straight Outta Compton' shares new trailer - watch

A new trailer for Straight Outta Compton, the eagerly-anticipated NWA biopic, has been released.

Dr Dre and Ice Cube, two of the founding members of the LA-based hip-hop group, served as producers on the biopic, which has been directed by F Gary Gray, whose previous credits include 2005's Be Cool and music videos for Jay-Z, TLC and Ice Cube.

Dr Dre and Eazy-E are played by newcomers Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, while Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson Jr portrays his father. Oscar-nominated actor Paul Giamatti appears in a supporting role as the group's manager Jerry Heller. Straight Outta Compton is set to open in UK cinemas on August 14.

Ice Cube suggested last year (2014) that an NWA reunion could happen as he and Dr Dre collaborated on the film. Speaking to NME, Ice Cube was asked if making the film might inspire either a studio reunion or even a live comeback.

"I'd say don't rule anything out," he replied. "It could happen. Hopefully doing this record project will inspire Dre to make more records again. I think the movie will remind a lot of people the importance of who we were and what we did – including us. We're here to give the people what they want so who knows what will happen after the movie."

However, any NWA reunion would take place without the late Eazy-E, who died in 1995.
