Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding lands 'Coronation Street' role

Sarah Harding is to join the cast of Coronation Street next month (May).

The former Girls Aloud singer will play a "feisty character" set to "make life difficult" for one of the soap's main antagonists, Tracy Barlow. ITV announced Harding's casting earlier today (April 1) but her character name and further storyline details are being kept under wraps.

"I am extremely excited to be joining Coronation Street. As a fan of the show it is a huge honour for me to join the cast. I can't wait to get started!!" Harding said.

The show's producer Stuart Blackburn added: "Sarah is proving to be a gifted and exciting actor and I'm absolutely delighted to have her on board, the viewers are in for a treat as her character will be right at the heart of a massive new story for the Barlows."

Harding's acting CV includes appearances in British comedy films Run For Your Wife, in which she co-starred opposite Danny Dyer, and St. Trinian's II: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold. She also had a supporting role in Freefall, a BBC Two film starring Dominic Cooper and Alfie Allen that aired in 2009. Harding's future Coronation Street co-stars include Kym Marsh, who also began her career in a pop group created on a reality TV show, Hear'Say, before moving into acting.
